A modern, fresh hospital of the future.

Union West is a 40-bed greenfield hospital in Stallings, North Carolina. The client's vision was to bring world class healthcare to the community while making a regional impact.

The result reads as calm and civic, daylight, landscape, and an open arrival sequence in place of the usual clinical front door.

As medical planner at Perkins&Will, I led user-group meetings with each department to understand how it would function in the new hospital.

From that feedback we drafted several plan solutions, iterating until we landed on the option that gave staff the most flexibility to expand in future phases, while respecting Atrium's system standards.
